DJ STEVE BRUCE
Steve started his DJ career back in the early-1980‟s as a mobile DJ with MOLE DISCO & The TOUCHDOWN Roadshow, both of whom are still running today. He used to spin at weddings, bar mitzvahs & 16th, 18th & 21st birthday parties, trying to get away with playing, the then underground jazz- funk, boogie & rare-groove music he loved, to a mainstream crowd. It was during these important formative years that he credits learning everything he knows today about how to control a dancefloor.
In London he ran the notorious "TOP OF THE POPS‟ parties in Mayfair with good friend Jason Van- Haeften and was a regular DJ at 'LES TEAROOMS DES ARTISTES', a popular post MINISTRY OF SOUND after-party that ran for many years in Clapham, south London. He left the UK for his second backpacking trip, which he is still on in 1995 and in 1997, he ended up in Hong Kong where he has now lived for the past 17 years and counting. During this time he has been a regular at almost all of Hong Kong‟s top venues including, OZONE, The Pawn, SOLAS, KEE Club, ARMANI/BAR, South Bay Beach Club, AQUA Spirit, YUMLA, F.I.N.D.S., CLUB 97 and TIVO as well as playing regularly around the Asia region.
His music style covers many musical genres including NU-DISCO, BALEARIC, RARE-GROOVES, UNDERGROUND DISCO, & OLD-SKOOL HIP-HOP, DISCO-RE-EDITS and 80'S BOOGIE. His sets are known for their musically knowledgeable, yet unpretentious content. NORMAN JAY, GILLES PETERSON, DIMITRI FROM PARIS & GREG WILSON are his biggest DJ influences.
Steve has been behind or involved with some of the most successful regular club nights in Hong Kong over the years including his long-running „SOULUTION‟ quality House music night – which ran for eight successful years, „The South Bay Sessions‟ at South Bay Beach Club, which ran for five years, his portable „EKLEKTA SELEKTA‟ lounge night which was featured as a show on www.ibizasonica.com for a while, „Hong Kong Eclectic‟ at ELEMENTS bar and „Deano Martino‟, a weekly lounge night at the now legendary 1/5 bar, in its day, voted one of the top 5 best bars in the world by Conde Nast Traveler magazine.
He has DJ'd at private parties for RONNIE WOOD of the ROLLING STONES, BUENA VISTA SOCIAL CLUB artists RUEBEN GONZALEZ & IBRAHIM FERRER & R&B artist CRAIG DAVID and has warmed up the dancefloor for many international DJ‟s including Norman Jay, Lisa Loud, BARGROOVES head honcho Ben Sowton, PACHA Ibiza resident Graham Sahara and FIERCE ANGELS Mark Doyle.
He has also worked closely with Hong Kong record distributor LOVE-DA-RECORDS (www.love-da- records.com) in Hong Kong and released his first commercial CD via Club 97 called ‘SOUNDS OF CLUB 97‟ which spent the whole summer of its release in the HMV dance chart. It is still available in store today, several years later.
