SUN ESKIMOS

SUN ESKIMOS
(HK)

It all started with a ukulele...

Sun Eskimos are an eclectic group of teenagers who came together in the latter months of 2008.  The group consists of Janice Ngiam (vocals, guitar, ukulele), Christopher Lai (guitar), Sean Ng (drums) and Ben Willetts (keyboards).  Their musical style melds indie pop together with a touch of jazz and soul.

Since arriving on the scene, Sun Eskimos have been surprising crowds in numerous HK venues such as The Fringe Club, Peel Fresco and Java Java Café with their seemingly effortless play and catchy hooks.

In early 2010, the band released their debut self-titled EP. The recording also featured keyboardist Caleb Hung and drummer Emily Direnzo.  A small number of copies of the EP were printed, all which were sold in about a week.  Half of the proceeds of this EP, which reached over $20,000 HKD, were then donated to UNICEF, while raising awareness for the crisis in Darfur.

In May of 2010, a local film group called Forcible Shorts shot and directed a video for Sun Eskimos' first single, Epic Journey.  This video, as well as numerous other vlogs, can be found on the band's Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/suneskimos).

The band are currently working together with local producers Peter Gorton (Soler) and Paul MacLean (DP) at Red Room Studio in Aberdeen.  From these recent sessions, the band has released their debut single, A Little Little.  The song went on to receive over 2000 hits in less than 72 hours and also just recently took the top spot on the CRHK Top 10.  Both were pleasant surprises…

And surprises are good (especially when there are more to come)!

Stay tuned...
